Installation Note 56897: During a maintenance update, SAS® 9.4 incorrectly reports that a valid license is expired

An error might occur when you are updating a SAS 9.4 M1 installation to SAS 9.4 M2. During the Review Required Updates step, after you click Next, you might see this error:
Warning
Your SAS license has expired.
You must renew your SAS license in order to continue.
Run the Renew SAS Software License task before continuing.
The error can occur even if you have a valid license associated with your order.
Cause
The issue occurs if you have removed and reinstalled a version of SAS 9.4 that predates 14w36 and you then attempt to update to 14w36.
Workarounds
There are two main workarounds for this issue. Do one of the following:
- Completely remove the older version of SAS 9.4 and then perform a fresh installation of the 14w36 order.
- Or request and download the latest SAS 9.4. This can be done through your SAS account executive. If you need help with identifying your account executive and would like to start the request process now, call SAS at 1-800-727-0025, menu option 2.
